Deck Season Is Here: Are You Ready?

Every year, there’s a moment when you can feel it. The days get longer, the air warms up, and people start thinking about being outside again. Around here in the Tri-Cities, Pitt Meadows, and Maple Ridge, deck season doesn’t last forever — which is why homeowners are putting more thought into how they make the most of it.

I have plenty of conversations this time of year that start the same way. Someone mentions they’ve been thinking about upgrading their deck, or finally building something new, but they’re not sure where to start. Then summer hits, life gets busy, and it gets pushed to next year. The reality is, the earlier you plan, the more you get to enjoy it when the weather is on your side.

Making the Most of the Moments That Matter

When people talk about wanting a new deck, they’re not really talking about the structure itself. They’re thinking about the moments that happen on it — summer BBQs with friends, quiet morning coffees before the day starts, evenings outside as the sun goes down. Those are the things that make a backyard feel like part of your home.

A well-designed deck makes those moments easier and more comfortable. It gives you space to host without feeling crowded, or a place to unwind without thinking about setup every time. Whether that’s built-in seating, better flow from the house, or some shade for the hotter days, the goal is always the same: build a space you actually want to use.

Over the years, I’ve seen how a simple upgrade can completely change how often people spend time outside. It’s not about going over the top — it’s about building something that fits your lifestyle so naturally it becomes part of your routine.

Starting Now Means Enjoying It Sooner

One of the biggest things I tell homeowners is not to wait too long once they’ve made the decision. Good projects take planning, and the busy season comes quickly. Starting early means you’re not rushing decisions, and you have a better chance of having everything ready when the warm weather really settles in.

Deck season comes and goes faster than most people expect. When your space is ready to go, you don’t miss those moments. You step outside, fire up the BBQ, pour a drink, and just enjoy it.

If you’ve been thinking about a new deck or updating your outdoor space, it’s always worth starting with a conversation. Talking through ideas early helps shape a design that fits your home, your lifestyle, and how you want to use the space.
