A Maple Ridge Deck Project That Checks Every Box
Custom Design, Composite Materials, and Stunning Details
As a Maple Ridge deck builder, there’s something I love about starting from scratch with a fresh project—especially when the client trusts me enough to take the lead creatively. This particular deck installation in Maple Ridge gave me full design freedom, and that’s where I do my best work.
From concept to completion, this build brought together thoughtful planning, premium materials, and creative vision. The result? A one-of-a-kind outdoor space that balances function, beauty, and durability.
Starting Strong: The Foundation Beneath the Finish

Before any composite decking boards go down, it all begins with a rock-solid foundation. We poured concrete footings designed to carry both dead and live loads, ensuring the deck would stand strong for years to come. The substructure was built using pressure-treated posts, beams, and joists, carefully spaced according to manufacturer specs. That means proper spans, on-centres, and no shortcuts.
By offering deck installation services in Maple Ridge, it’s our responsibility to do things right—even when most of that work will eventually be hidden. That’s what gives your finished product its strength and longevity.
A Design Meant to Pop
With the foundation complete, it was time to have some fun with the design. I didn’t want this to be your typical rectangular platform. I wanted this deck to pop—visually and structurally.
To break up the space and add visual interest, I created three distinct zones by changing the board direction in each. It gave us contrast while keeping clean lines throughout the entire layout. For the decking itself, we used Trex Enhance Naturals in Coastal Bluff, which brought a rich, coastal-inspired tone to the entire structure.
This wasn’t just a deck—it became an outdoor extension of the home, built for everyday use and evening ambience alike.
Lighting the Way: 52 Accent Lights and a Beautiful Glow
One of the standout features of this deck installation was the lighting. We installed 52 Lumenstar accent lights throughout the structure, adding both safety and style. Lights were installed in the stair risers, the composite privacy wall, and around the skirting.
We always install risers and fascia first before planning our lighting layout. Once everything’s marked, the drilling begins, and it gets a bit messy—but that’s part of the process. Once wires are run and lights are in place, we can move on to laying the decking boards.
Decking Done Right: Fasteners, Finishes, and Precision Cuts
Before we install any composite boards, we protect the treated substructure with butyl tape on all top edges. This step prevents moisture from seeping in around fasteners, helping to avoid rot and extend the lifespan of the deck’s structure.
For the decking, we used a clip and hidden plug system—those plugs are colour-matched to the decking, so you get a clean, seamless surface. Every board is run wild at first and then trimmed perfectly with a track saw. We finished it all off with well-planned breaker boards and bordered edges to tie the entire space together.
That attention to detail makes a world of difference—especially when you’re offering deck installation where homeowners care about long-term value as much as curb appeal.
Privacy, Skirting, and Stunning Wrap-Around Stairs
The composite privacy wall was designed not just for seclusion, but as a multi-functional feature. It also serves as the railing, and we made sure it was structurally sound by anchoring five 4×4 pressure-treated posts into the substructure. Then, we infilled with vertical 2x4s and finished it with decking boards for a sleek, cohesive look.
The composite skirting and privacy wall match the deck layout exactly, which brings everything together visually. As for the wrap-around stairs, they’re a highlight of the design. These steps extend from the deck and lead gracefully into the yard, welcoming you into the space from multiple directions.
It’s a beautiful way to connect the outdoor living area with the rest of the property.
